CHANDRAPUR TRAIN STATION Chandranigahpur, Rautahat

Abstract

Train station is a terminal where trains load or unload passengers or goods. I have chosen “Chandrapur Train station” as my thesis project for research and design. My site is Chandranigahpur, Rautahat as it is one of the proposed site for Train Station by the Railway Department of Nepal. The main objective of choosing this topic is due to the necessity of rail transport recently ongoing project for the mass and freight transportation in Nepal. This train station design project is carried out in two different phases of study. Firstly, research phase which includes literature review and case study. For the literature review, various types and components of Railway station, its operational process, management and functional requirements and capacity and other standard data are studied for the Train station design. Secondly, case studies were done for the better understanding. I did the various international case studies. Namely: Sitamarhi Junction, Sitamarhi( India), Napoli Afragola Station by Zahadid, Italy and Liege-Guillemins Raily Station by Santiago calatrava, Belgium. The case studies helped me understand the operational activites of station and finalize the basic requirements for my design. The study of literature and case studies, helped me in forming the program formulation which helped in space allocation and manage their circulation. This paper report explains the different types and forms of train station and their descriptions and the final design drawings and sketches of my thesis project. As this is the live and important project being carried out by Government of Nepal, this station will provide connectivity to the East-West railyway network. Since, Chapur is the city with no particular identification through architecture so, this iconic station building will create landmark in the fast growing city of Rautahat.
