HOUSING FOR ALL: DESIGNING RESIDENTIAL ARCHITECTURE FOR URBAN CONNECTIVITY AND NATURE INTEGRATION

Abstract

To create an innovative mid rise residential buildings with a mix of all the necessities inside the communities by incorporating public and private green and open spaces throughout its structure, circulation and tropical design elements. This design aims to create a more cohesive living environment amongst the users despite their age groups. This housing is designed to cater both middle – income groups, with due considerations for rental families as well. Urban housing often suffers from inadequate public spaces, including a lack of community parks catering to the needs of both children and the elderly. In contemporary times, numerous diseases afflict people, highlighting the importance of physical and mental well bring. To address these concerns, this housing project endeavors to offer ample playing areas for children and community spaces where adults and the elderly can engage in social interaction, fostering overall health and vitality for all residents. The projects aims to provide a housing for all age group. Elderly and children are the one who spends most of the time in the house. So children playground, space for social interaction for elderly and adult is vital need. At the same time more people tends to live in urban areas. So the project encourages to live in apartment to enjoy ample public spaces for the resident. Nevertheless individual plots are also provided who prefer to live in independent homes. Independent houses are also designed in cluster to have more community space. This thesis presents a design proposal for a housing project that aims to create a barrier – free living environment for people of all ages. With an aging population and an increasing demand for accessible and inclusive housing, this project focuses on addressing the needs of different age groups and promoting social integration. Through a combination of research, analysis and design strategies, this thesis proposes a solution that provides functional and adaptable living spaces while promoting a sense of community and belonging. Throughout multiple dense, urban contexts have created a sense of social detachment, where public and private green spaces do not often exist. It is through these varieties of green as well as public open spaces that social interaction is encouraged and without these open and green spaces the community becomes almost meaningless entity within the urban realm. The open spaces such as courtyards, pokharis, dhungedhara around the old settlements of the country are what has kept the social interactions alive.
