dc.description.abstract | “Architecture” originating from mere Greek word ἀρχιτέκτων – arkhitekton – from ἀρχι- "chief" and τέκτων "builder, carpenter, mason", after centuries of human evolution, has attained a vast diverse range of meanings and perceptions. To define what Architecture is as challenging as defining the purpose of human existence. And every definition and interpretation will certainly lead to another giving everybody a chance to find their own. For most of the use of the word Architecture, it is strived to contain within the limits of physical presence while it flies from the grasp of tangible values into intangible feelings and imaginations. Since the birth of “arkhitekton” certainly took place within the need of human to shelter themselves, that same need has been guiding the path of architecture .At first looking back at the history , very back , the earliest surviving AD set three principles of firmness, commodity and delight. Certainly , the majestic works of the Romans, imitating they engraved basic guidelines for the future of what architecture should do, exist. And by the word exist , exist firmly , usefully and beautifully . Architecture never remains constant. The only thing constant is change and gravity. The later development in architecture tries to interpret architecture as a form of art and architect as a profession. The inception of styles, values and principles, and the constant need of human development nourishes architecture to be more than just building or just art. In the late 20th century a new concept was added to Architecture, the consideration of sustainability. To satisfy the contemporary ethos a building should be constructed in a manner which is environmentally friendly in terms of the production of its materials, its impact upon the natural and built environment of its surrounding area and the demands that it makes upon nonsustainable power sources for heating, cooling, lighting and water and waste managements. From the very beginning to the present mainstream of sustainability issues, the word Architecture has constantly evolved along the time. Changes of our society, changes in our ways for thinking, the greater expansion of our knowledge and technologies. In these all “Architecture lives to see better tomorrow”. | en_US |
